Senna (Senna alexandrina)is a small, peelable-bark shrub that grows in the upper Nile regions ofAfrica and the Arabian peninsula. Senna was used over 3500 years ago byancient Egyptian physicians. According to a rare and amazing Egyptianmedical papyrus, dating to the 16th century B.C., Senna was prescribedby the physicians for their distinguished patients.

It was alsoused extensively by Arabian physicians, according to their 9th centuryA.D. writings. Senna was introduced to Europe before the Crusades andhas been widely used ever since. Directions:Do not consume more than two cups daily. Do not give to children. Thebest way to make a good cup of tea is by the infusion method. Place onetea bag in a cup and no more than 6 oz. of boiling water. Let steep for3 minutes. Press the bag before removing to enhance the flavor. Addhoney to sweeten.
